Our trip to Santa Cruz while Alicia was out visiting.
It’s been over a month since we posted an update on here and there is a great reason for it. You know that saying, “If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all”…? The Mallorys had a rough May/June thanks to constant ear infections ending in Jacob getting tubes and then a head cold that lingered for weeks. So we chose to stay away from the negative and not post updates on our frustrations.
Well we are in a new month and Jacob is a new boy! The tubes have cleared up all of his issues and we are thrilled to post a happy update. We spent the Fourth of July in Southern California with our friends Grant and Heather and Grant’s parents Wayne and Elaine. Read the rest of this entry »
Jennifer went all out for me this weekend for my 30th birthday. It started Saturday with a professional bass fisherman trip on the Delta for largemouth bass. Grant joined me for the trip and we got into some big fish. I had the time of my life out there. Sunday we had fun on Folsom Lake with Grant and Heather and then came home for a family birthday dinner where Jennifer and mom prepared my favorite dinner… cheese stuffed shells. To wrap it all up we headed to the Giants vs. Braves game at AT&T park in San Francisco with our closest friends. The weather was great, the Giants won… what could be better?! The Mallorys had a great Easter with Nani Karla and cousins Kaiya and Aiyana. The day started with a special, surprise delivery from Grandpa on our doorstep.
We then took a few pics outside before Nani & Co. arrived.
Then it was time for Jacob’s first Easter basket!
And then it was time for an Easter egg hunt for Kaiya and Aiyana!
After that wrapped up we headed to Haggin Oaks golf course for a free pancake breakfast and Easter egg hunt.
And finally back home for some of Nani’s home cooking. Jacob looked like such a dude!
We had a great trip to Lake Tahoe to celebrate Christmas with Jennifer’s mom and her boyfriend Les. The drive up was beautiful with blue skies, crisp air and plenty of snow. The trip was full of “firsts” for Jacob.
Here are pics from the trip.
The Mallorys headed up to the chilly hills of Apple Hill in Placerville to take Jacob on his first pumpkin patch adventure at Plubell’s Orchard. We weren’t sure what to expect for the day since Jacob can’t sit up on his own or appreciate things like the petting zoo or picking his own pumpkin. We arrived a little before noon and quickly found it was a lot colder than we were dressed for. We grabbed some warm food then went down to the pumpkin area where Plubell’s has hay, pumpkins, and an old Ford tractor all staged for great photos. Jacob loved getting his hands on anything he could touch and we got some great photos. Around 1pm Jacob got hungry and we tried to feed him, which didn’t go so well. He was already tired and he was having some tummy issues so we decided to call it a day. Jacob had his fill and we got the photos we wanted so we weren’t too upset with the early departure. Here are the pics from the trip.
The Mallorys had a very eventful weekend! We started the weekend off with my buddy EJ’s birthday on Friday night. It was a surprise and his wife arranged for his friends to drop by for dinner. We played Scattegories and had a great time laughing at our absurd answers.
The next day we dropped Jacob off at the Wixoms and took my mom out to Napa Valley aboard the wine train. We enjoyed some great wine and really good food (mom had the salmon, Jennifer and I had the best beef tenderloin I’ve ever had!). The train left the station at 11:30 and cruised at a leisurely 17mph to St. Helena where it stopped for twenty minutes or so before turning back around. On the way back to the station we had dessert and various dessert wines. It was great to get out with my mom and share some conversation about life without all of the distractions.
After the wine train we picked Jacob up, dropped my mom off back home and rushed over to the Parish’s for their son’s three-year birthday party. It was surfer themed and they created a water park in their backyard. The cake looked like a huge wave, too! Jill is always so creative with family events. It seemed like there were more kids there than adults and Jacob quickly became irritated with all the noise. We took him in the backyard and he fell asleep in my arms. The poor guy had been to a birthday party earlier in the day with the Wixoms and had enough at this point.
The next day we relaxed early in the day and ran errands. We then hosted our friends for a Labor Day BBQ and played some Scattegories. Jacob looked adorable in his “This is How I Roll” onesie that Uncle Tuna got him and his “Skate or Cry” hat that our friends in SoCal got him. We got some great pictures of Jacob and his hat.
Monday was a low-key regroup day. After everything Jacob had been through he was noticeably more fussy and just needed some calm home time before starting day-care on Tuesday, but that’s for another post.

Jennifer took me on a great trip to Amador County wine country today. We have taken trips to Napa, but never to Amador. It’s only about 40 minutes from our house and is a beautiful drive. We got there around noon and spent hours wine tasting and walking around. Jennifer surprised me with a picnic out in a quiet vineyard.
Be sure to check out the photos!

Jennifer and I just got back from NYC last night. Jennifer had been to NY before, but this was my first time in the city. We went with our good friends, Grant and Heather. It gave me a new perspective on how small Sacramento is. We did so much in four full days and had an amazing time. I’ll put up a day by day, but I’m too lazy now. Until then, enjoy our photos from the trip!
