Matt | November 29, 2008R.I.P. Sacramento Pickup Stix 19?? – 2008
Matt | January 17, 2008
Jennifer and I were in the mood for some Americanized chinese food the other night. We have a couple Pickup Stix restaurants close to us and it’s easy to call ahead and pickup. We put the phone on speaker and dialed, hoping to order some chicken with vegetables and cream cheese wontons. We waited as the phone rang about ten times before a cheery gentleman answered the phone with the normal Pickup Stix opening. We asked to place an order for pickup and were greeted with, “Well, we just got the word today that all Sacramento stores are closed.” It hadn’t hit us yet so we asked why they closed early for the day. “Oh, no, we’re closed for good. Corporate decided we weren’t making money for them so they pulled out of the market.”
WHAT?!?
Granted, I could see the quality of their food and the service we received declining every time we ordered, but they’re a big chain and immune to this kind of thing, right? I guess not. Oh well, we’ll just have to find somewhere else to get our soy fix.
Sacramento Burning
Matt | March 16, 2007Here is a shot on my way in to work today. An elevated railroad has been burning since 5:45pm yesterday. The news is reporting the wood is chemically treated and that’s why the smoke is so black. The smoke yesterday was crazy so this is very mild compared to the scene last night.

Idiots Waiting for PS3 in the Rain
Matt | November 16, 2006It’s Jennifer’s birthday today and I got her a full spa package. It started at 9am and I had some time to kill so I drove over to Target. I tried Best Buy first, but they didn’t open until 10:00. The temperature was about 50 degrees and rainy. When I got to Target I found these idiots camped outside in the rain waiting for the PS3. Only 400,000 are making it to the US shores for launch day so the chances of the 5th guy in line getting one is pretty slim. Factor in lost time and pneumonia and I can’t imagine doing this for a freaking video game console. What idiots.
I don’t want to hear about how these guys can sell it on eBay for $1,000. When the damn thing costs $600 to begin with, $400 isn’t worth it.
Sitting Courtside with the Kings!
Matt | November 12, 2006Tonight I had one of the most amazing experiences. Thanks to my wonderful wife (and Wells Fargo) I was able to sit on King’s Row at Arco Arena! The face price on the ticket was an unbelievable $965!!! Since Jennifer works for Wells Fargo I have been able to watch a couple games in the Wells Fargo suite halfway up the arena. Before today’s game that was the closest I’ve been to the action on the court. I can’t explain how exciting it was to sit so close. I had Bibby, Artest, and Kevin Martin feet away as they inbounded the ball right in front of me. I felt like I was in a movie as the players ran around within arm’s reach It will be a memory that I hang on to for a long time. I imagine I won’t be able to enjoy a game from the nose-bleeds now that I’ve had a taste of the good life. Seriously, how can you go back to SPAM after eating filet mignon?
