Vacation to Southern California
Matt | July 15, 2009It’s been over a month since we posted an update on here and there is a great reason for it. You know that saying, “If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all”…? The Mallorys had a rough May/June thanks to constant ear infections ending in Jacob getting tubes and then a head cold that lingered for weeks. So we chose to stay away from the negative and not post updates on our frustrations.
Well we are in a new month and Jacob is a new boy! The tubes have cleared up all of his issues and we are thrilled to post a happy update. We spent the Fourth of July in Southern California with our friends Grant and Heather and Grant’s parents Wayne and Elaine. The drive was 8 hours, but thanks to our friends EJ and Veronica, Jacob had a portable DVD player in the back that kept him happy and entertained. We arrived in Anaheim Hills on Thursday night around 9pm. The day was spent so we unloaded the truck so we could get to sleep.
After all the bags were unloaded my heart sank… I forgot to pack Jacob’s suitcase with all his clothes! After a few minutes of panic we shrugged it off and decided Jennifer would get some shopping done in the morning and we would just roll with it. Friday morning Jennifer shopped and I helped Grant move some stuff into his office. Then we lounged around the pool while Jacob slept. That night we went to dinner at Wood Ranch.
Saturday we got up and took a walk around a local resevoir, then we hustled to get ready for a 4th of July block party in Yorba Linda. The block party was incredible with a live band, a fire truck, tons of games for the kids and a lot of food. The block party even had the news come out and do a segment! You can see the video here. Then we regrouped at home and got a nap in before heading out for dinner and fireworks. Jacob LOVED the fireworks and sat in amazement while they lit up the sky.
Sunday was our final day in SoCal. Grant and Heather went to look for rental properties so Jennifer and I headed to Huntington Beach to get some sun, sand and shopping. It was a little cooler than we expected, but it was a blast. We had lunch at the end of the big pier while people around us caught little bait fish over the side. Then Jacob splashed around in the ocean a little bit and cruised around the Huntington Beach shops with us. We headed back home for the evening. Grant and Heather had friends and family over for a BBQ and engagement celebration for his sister and soon to be brother-in-law.
Here is the gallery from our trip. We had a much needed, relaxing vacation and Jacob had a blast!
