Jacob Log 4-28-08: Glorious Sleep!

Matt | April 28, 2008

I hope I don’t jinx it, but Jennifer and I have found a routine that gives us a solid 2-3 hours between feedings. Jacob is taking about 1.5-2oz each feeding and it usually induces a “milk coma” where he just passes out after eating. We have setup a sleep positioner in between us in bed so Jacob can hear/smell his parents. He goes into his milk coma and we sleep for hours. I’ve never felt so amazing in my life!

On another note, Jacob’s cord stump fell off today! He is such a big boy now with his perfect belly button.

Papa Mallory went out and got Mario Kart Wii yesterday to pass the time during the day. Our friends Todd and Michelle have their little one Adam so Matt and Todd can play each other online.

Jacob Log 4-26-08: Day 7 is Photo Day!

Matt | April 26, 2008

We took a bunch of pics of Jacob today. We had a ton of fun with him until our bedtime hit and he had zero interest in going to bed peacefully. Very frustrating night for all of us.

Jacob Log 4-24-08: Day 4

Matt | April 24, 2008

Jennifer and I had a great day with Jacob! Yesterday we were a little concerned that he wasn’t going #2, but he eased our fears today by going not once, not twice, but five times! It seems the milk is starting to work its magic on his tummy.

Jacob was more alert today when Grandpa came over. He opens his eyes really wide now and focuses for a long time. I’m starting to think his eyes will turn brown over the coming weeks. They’re not a bright blue and they can only darken as his eye pigment develops. Since he had a 50% chance of brown eyes it’s not much of a surprise.

We made a trip to Goores and Target to pick up a couple nursing essentials. Jacob stayed in the car in his carseat. He seemed to really enjoy the car ride with his mom next to him. We also finally got a chance to put stuff away around the house and vacuum. The cat litter was embarrassingly bad as well. We have established a mobile baby center between our bedroom at night/morning and the front room during the day. We got a diaper caddy from Goores today to help tote the changing items around.

Jacob still hasn’t slept in his crib. Jennifer and I are just a little nervous about leaving him alone so he sleeps in a basonet next to our bed. We set him down in his crib while grandpa was here and he looked so little in his big crib! He seemed very relaxed in his crib, but I’ll still want to get a video monitor rather than the basic audio monitor we have now.

Tomorrow EJ and Veronica are going to come over to meet Jacob. It’s 10:38pm and I’m watching Lost right now. Jacob is due to eat again in an hour so I’m not going to get much sleep tonight!

Jacob – Our Joyful Experiences So Far

Matt | April 23, 2008

So many little things have happened since Jacob was born.  Here are some highlights:

  • He has been poked and prodded way more than mom & dad care to see since Jennifer was gestationally diabetic they had to test his blood sugar the first day.
  • When papa Matt changed his first diaper he didn’t block very well and Jacob peed all over his own face!  He was not happy about this.
  • Jacob had his two-day checkup and everything is perfect. Again, Matt was talking to the RN and Jacob peed all over himself.  Papa is learning, slowly.
  • Either mom or dad was up with his for the first 48 hours of his life.  We were so scared he would smother himself!
  • In his third day of life he is much more alert.  He opens his eyes and locks on our faces.  He loves to lay skin-to-skin like a frog on his mom or dad.
  • Jacob eats every 3 hours and is gaining weight now after losing a few ounces after birth.
  • Jacob loves to claw at his face when he is excited or frustrated so we keep him gloved when he’s not swaddled.

We’re Home! Jacob is Doing Great

Matt | April 21, 2008

Meet Jacob Douglass Mallory, born April 19, 2008 at 9:06pm.  He weighed 6lbs 3oz and was 18.5in long at birth. Jacob is home with his family after a couple days in the hospital. Jacob passed all his tests and got the OK to go home this morning. He was so adorable in his car seat! Jennifer rode in the back seat with him, of course. He is so precious!

The grandmas came over this afternoon and let Jennifer and I sleep. We can’t both be asleep while he is for fear something is going to happen to him. We’re trying to figure a schedule out, but it’s hard to let him out of our sight. I don’t know if it’s a new parent thing or completely normal, but that’s how we feel.

Jacob is eating every 2-3 hours and really loves his pacifier during his down time. He usually has a wet or soiled diaper at each feeding so we’re getting a ton of practice changing him.

We Love You, Adam!

Matt | April 16, 2008

We were lucky enough to meet baby Adam yesterday. Our great friends Todd and Michelle had their baby boy yesterday afternoon. He is a beautiful, healthy baby and both he and his parents are doing great. Here are a couple pics of us with baby Adam.

Now we need to get Jacob out in the world so Adam has a buddy to play with!

I have great co-workers!

Matt | April 14, 2008

I got to work this morning and my cubicle was decorated with blue and green balloons and a mylar balloon that says “Yep, I’m a boy.” I work with a bunch of great people!  Later in the day we all had cake and they gave me a card and a fairly hefty gift card to Babies R Us.  We need some last minute things so the timing is perfect!

The Site Looks Lame – Thanks Wordpress 2.5

Matt | April 12, 2008

I should have known better than to upgrade the blogging software without testing it first. My old theme isn’t compatible with Wordpress 2.5 and it jacked everything up. Now I’ll have to put some work in to find another theme to customize. In the meantime The Mallorys Online will have this generic look.

Well over the next few days I’m going to be playing with the theme quite a bit so things may be whacky for a while.

Update: It may not have been the theme that was incompatible. It may have been the “Contact Us” plugin causing problems. I accidentally deleted it while messing with my plugins and now the site seems to be working again. The major issue was with my post categories, but they’re working now. I’m just going to be very delicate with the site settings to make sure I don’t break it again.

Jacob Update 4-11-08

Matt | April 11, 2008

Jennifer had a doctor appointment yesterday and found out she is 50% effaced and 1cm dilated. This doesn’t tell us anything other than the fact things are happening and we’re getting closer to meeting him. She could go into labor tomorrow or she could go into labor in two weeks, we just don’t know. Tomorrow she will be 38 weeks along. We’re getting excited!
